Bubalina’s Pumpkin Body Butter- reviewed and recommended
Bubalina is a girly brand that tries to put the fun back into spa. Pong is a priority and there are 18 different scents in the range. The nice people there sent me a few samples to try, including – just in time for Halloween – the Spicy Pumpkin Body butter ($24). I tried it after this morning’s shower and, some eight hours later, my skin still smells of gingerbread.
Most of this rich body cream’s ingredients are organic and Bubalina sticks with the program on packaging, which is based on recycled materials and vegetable inks. Apart from a whiff of phenoxyethanol, there is nothing not to like and plenty to love. Let’s start with pumpkin, which is here in oil, extract and enzyme form, proving that there is lot more to pumpkin than something to carve. pumpkins are full of beta-carotene, one of the plant carotenoids that is converted to vitamin A in the body. Pumpkin is also a good source of thiamin, niacin, vitamin B6, folate, pantothenic acid, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamin C, vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol), riboflavin, potassium, copper and manganese.
Meanwhile, pumpkin enzymes break down the outer layers of the skin, leaving it looking fresher and feeling softer by digesting the dead skin and decongesting pores. So Bubalina’s body butter is giving you a spot of exfoliation as well as hydration.
I was especially pleased to see that Bubalina has also included borage and flax seed oils. Researchers from Germany and France claim that the omega-3 and omega-6 (fatty acids) in flax and borage oils prevent skin from roughening and scaling. Flaxseed consists predominantly of omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Borage is mostly omega-6 gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) and linoleic acid (LA).
An ingredient that I’ve only seen elsewhere is Aveda’s Green Science range is calophyllum tacahamaca (also called tamanu oil), a plant that has HIV-curing properties and is, as far as I can work out, an anti-inflammatory. As is aloe, the juice of which is the most dominant ingredient.
